Posted 20/01/2016

Richard Bell presents 'BELL invites', an exhibition and symposium at STEDELIJK SMBA featuring key works and collaborations with Emory Douglas, alongside local artists brought together by Aruna Vermeulen, director of the HipHopHuis, including painter Brian Elstak, designer Farida Sedoc (Hosselaer), and dancers Ritzah Statia and 020 Crew. 'BELL invites' aims to challenge and expands existing notions of performance art. Bell proposes The Aboriginal Tent Embassy as the greatest work of performance art within Australian history, highlighting its influence on the development of overlooked performance traditions in Australia. Curated by Vivian Ziherl the exhibition and symposium showcases local and other international examples of these performance traditions. 'BELL invites' opens at SMBA (the project space of Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam) Friday 29 January at 5pm and runs until Saturday 19 March 2016. Opening and closing events will include discussion groups, dance interventions and DJ sessions.
