RICHARD BELL: EMBASSY, CAIRNS INDIGENOUS ART FAIR
Posted 12/07/2016
The Institute of Modern Art Brisbane, KickArts and Cairns Indigenous Art Fair present the latest iteration of Richard Bell's Embassy project. Connecting with the establishment of the Aboriginal Tent Embassy on the lawns of Parliament House Canberra in 1972, Bell's Embassy is a large military-style tent and a series of painted placards that recall the original tent embassy's form and function as a site for protest and activism. Embassy is also a performance space where issues ranging from sovereignty to solidarity and political action are addressed through conversations, screenings, public meetings, and performances. The full program is available via the CIAF 2016 website and runs from 14 - 17 July.
