TIM JOHNSON: PAINTING IDEAS
A survey exhibition of Tim Johnson's work is currently showing at the Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane. Tim Johnson: Painting ideas spans over 30 years of the artist's practice, and encompasses video, prints and painting. Co-curated by Wayne Tunnicliffe, from the Art Gallery of New South Wales, and the Queensland Art Gallery's Julie Ewington, the exhibition provides a comprehensive overview of this innovative artist's practice to date, from Johnson's early conceptual works, through his engagement with punk music, Indigenous art, and the recent collaborative paintings which embody the artist's ongoing interest in Eastern cultures and religion. GoMA is the second venue for this major exhibition, after its recent display at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. It will also travel to the Ian Potter Museum, Melbourne, later this year. A monograph on the artist's work has been published to coincide with the exhibition.
