KHADIM ALI: THE HAUNTED LOTUS
Khadim Ali's solo show at the Art Gallery of New South Wales is now open and runs until June 1 2014. 'The Haunted Lotus' features a series of new, large-scale carpet works based on Ali's The Haunted Lotus series, as well as an accompanying video work. Read more.
KHALED SABSABI: MARRAKECH BIENNALE
70,000 Veils, a new work by Khaled Sabsabi premieres as part of the Marrakech Biennale, which opens tomorrow and runs until 31 March 2014. The video work considers the complex position of religion and spirituality in the digital age. The title of the work refers to the Prophet Mohammed's teachings that 70,000 veils of light and darkness separate the individual from the divine. Read more.
VERNON AH KEE & GORDON HOOKEY: FOUR ROOMS, ADELAIDE FESTIVAL
'Four Rooms', a multi-sensory exhibition curated by Troy-Anthony Baylis opens today as part of the Adelaide Festival. The exhibition includes work by seven Indigenous artists, including Vernon Ah Kee who has collaborated with artists Tess Allas (NSW) and Charlie Schneider (USA) to create a video work Andy Warhol on Aboriginal Art. Gordon Hookey also features as part of the exhibition. Read more.
STUART RINGHOLT: THE TALKING CURE
'The Talking Cure' brings together the work of six international artists to consider the ongoing legacy and relevance of therapy. Representations of fear, anxiety and terror since the global financial crisis are considered in the work of Stuart Ringholt, Andrea Fraser, Marianne Flotron, Melanie Gilligan, Jesse Jones and Superflex. The exhibition runs from 2 March to 11 May at Oakville Galleries at Centennial Square Oakville, Canada.
TOM NICHOLSON: NAHRAIN
Tom Nicholson is currently exhibiting at the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre as part of Nahrain, a group exhibition presenting audiences with various artistic reflections and interpretations relating to a specific region of present day Iraq (ancient Mesopotamia) and the region’s history, geography, environment and cultural referencing. RICHARD BELL: EMBASSY
As part of the Perth International Arts Festival, the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA) is presenting a significant solo exhibition of the work of Richard Bell. Embassy runs until 27 April 2014 and is exhibited alongside South African artist William Kentridge's The Refusal of Time 2012.
PICA is also presenting a number of public programmes expanding on the themes in Embassy and The Refusal of Time. Read more.
STUART RINGHOLT: KRAFT
The Monash University Museum of Art presents a major exhibition of Stuart Ringholt's work, opening this Friday 14 February. The exhibition runs at MUMA until the 17 April 2014. The show will also tour to the Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane and City Gallery, Wellington later in the year. Read more
