Louise Hearman has been awarded the 2014 Doug Moran National Portrait Prize for her portrait of fellow artist and partner Bill Henson. Hearman receives an award of $150,000 for winning the prize. Read more
ALEKS DANKO: MY FELLOW AUS-TRA-ALIENS, MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART AUSTRALIA
The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia has announced a 2015 survey exhibition of the work of Aleks Danko. The exhibition will present highlights from Danko's early exhibitions in Adelaide in the late 1960s, through to his recent large-scale installations. The exhibition will run from 30 July - 18 October 2015 and is presentend in association with the Heide Museum of Modern Art.
RICHARD BELL: 'ACTION AT A DISTANCE' THE NAUGHTON GALLERY, BELFAST
'Action at a Distance: The Life and Legacy of John Stewart Bell' is a group exhibition celebrating John Stewart Bell, the influential Northern Irish physicist who revolutionised the world's understanding of both quantum theory and the nature of the physical universe through the publication of Bell's theorem of non-locality.
TOM NICHOLSON: QALANDIYA INTERNATIONAL, JERUSALEM
Tom Nicholson's Comparative monument (Ma'man Allah) is presented as part of the second Qalandiya International from 22 October to 15 November 2014. Exhibited within the Khalidi Library, Jerusalem, the project is a continuation of Nicholson's recent solo exhibition at Milani Gallery in September 2014.
GORDON BENNETT: GRIFFITH UNIVERSITY OUTSTANDING ALUMNUS OF THE YEAR 2014
Gordon Bennett was recognised for his major contribution to Australian art and the country's cultural life at the Griffith University 2014 Alumni Awards on Friday 17 October 2014. Gordon was awarded posthumously the Griffith University Arts, Education and Law Outstanding Alumnus of the Year 2014 and Griffith University Queensland College of Art Outstanding Alumnus of the Year 2014.
RICHARD BELL: IMAGINING VICTORY, TOURING EXHIBITION
Richard Bell's Imagining Victory trilogy tours to six NSW and VIC regional centres as part of an exhibition organised by Artspace Visual Arts Centre, Sydney with the assistance of Museum & Galleries NSW. On the road until early 2016, the exhibition presents Bell's three films, Scratch an Aussie 2008, Broken English 2009 and The Dinner Party 2013, for new audiences, elaborating on Bell's distinct language of activism.
BONITA ELY: NOW THE HEART IS FILLED WITH GOLD AS IF IT WERE A PURSE, ARTS PROJECT AUSTRALIA
Taking its title from Tears of Rage, a song by Bob Dylan and The Band, 'now the heart is filled with gold as if it were a purse' is an exhibition at Arts Project Australia curated by Glenn Barkley. The exhibition includes work by Bonita Ely, including her 1982 work A Mother Shows Her Daughter to the Universe (outer space). Touching upon themes of love, romance and family, the exhibition runs until 28 November 2014.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Hunter on September 23, 2014. Robert was best known as Australia's most committed minimalist painter. His restrained work came to the attention of the public during The Field exhibition, which opened the NGV St Kilda Road in 1968.

Art as a Verb is a major thematic exhibition that takes as its departure point the concept of art as action, both inside the gallery and beyond. TOM NICHOLSON: ALLEGORY OF THE CAVE PAINTING, EXTRA CITY ANTWERP
Tom Nicholson presents selected work from his recent exhibition 'Cartoons for Joseph Selleny' at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Exhibited as part of 'Allegory of the Cave Painting' at Extra City Kuntshal in Antwerp, this group exhibition takes thematic inspiration from a 2010 research trip by the University of Queensland of the prehistoric Bradshaw (gwion-gwion) paintings in the North Western Australia. The exhibition runs until 7 December 2014.
